It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen as a young woman glanced at the fogged up window and realized that her life would never be the same again. She went outside holding a cup of freshly brewed black coffee in her hands, sat on the first bench that caught her eye and plunged into her thoughts seeking for the memories that gave her the feeling of safety.
“It is quite horrific how much can be lost with a blink of an eye” – thought Ann as she burnt her lips with every sip of coffee. A year ago Ann was a first time owner of a donut cafeteria that was situated in the middle of the green area in her hometown and a proud mother of her 5-years-old daughter. She was living her best life with its ups and downs, all the challenges in family life as well as in business routine she faced with her head held high. A nice, gentle woman, who never treaded on anyone’s toes, one chilling morning woke up
anxiously with the sence that something vital was missing. Back then she didn’t know it would be her freedom.
A great evil came into her home, the homes of her parents and friends, along with the homes of people she knew and the ones she didn’t get a chance to get acquainted with. It brought destruction, fear, mourning to everything it met on its way until no piece of prosperity, hope, love and light was left. People were deprived of peace forever, they were forced to play by the rules the evil was offering them. They were compelled to put up with all the damage, loss or injustice whether it was taking away their lands, murders of their loved ones or complete isolation from the civilized world.
The heroine of the story was a strong-willed woman until one day she had lost her powers along with her freedom and a chance to feel normal or safe ever again. The one thing she knows about happiness is that it can be found among her memories, but never in the reality.
